Log time

  1. Go to Time and click New Time Entry.
  2. Choose Client, then Project, then Task. Task is required. If the client has no project yet, you can add one from this window.
  3. Set Date. Under Duration, type hours and minutes. The boxes say Hours and Minutes.
  4. Check Hourly Rate. It starts from the task rate, then the project rate, if one of those is set. You can change it for this entry.
  5. Description and Internal Notes are optional.
  6. Leave Billable on if you plan to charge for this time. Turn it off if you only want a record.
  7. Click Create Entry.

On a new invoice, open Add unbilled time and pick the entry. Only billable time that is not already on an invoice shows up there.

What your client sees

Your client sees the task, the date, the hours, the hourly rate, and the description when that time is on an invoice or quote. They do not see Internal Notes or whether you marked it Billable.

Common questions

A time entry is hours on a client, project, and task. An item is something else you bill, such as goods, a purchase you pass on, an expense, or a flat professional service fee. See how to add an item.

Billable is off, or the entry is already on an invoice, including a draft. Turn Billable on, or take it off the draft, and it can be picked again.

Yes. A time entry needs a client, a project, and a task. See how to add a project.
