Ask for a deposit

  1. On New Quote, or while the quote is still a draft, check Require deposit.
  2. Under Deposit, choose Percent of total or Fixed amount.
  3. Enter Percent or Amount. A percent is part of the quote total your client sees. A fixed amount cannot be larger than that total when you send.
  4. Send the quote. If it has a deposit, the send window includes Let the client pay the deposit online, and a payment instructions choice. See how to create and send a quote.

When your client accepts, Track and Invoice creates a deposit invoice. It is due on receipt. It is not emailed by itself. If online pay is on and Stripe is ready, the quote page sends them to pay that deposit by card or bank account.

After the deposit is fully paid, Track and Invoice creates a draft Balance invoice for the rest of the job. It includes a line for the deposit already paid. You review that draft and send it yourself.

What your client sees

Before they accept, the quote shows the deposit and the balance after it. If they can pay online, the page says they can pay the deposit by card or bank account after they accept. If online pay is off, they see How to pay the deposit when you saved an instruction. After they pay, the quote says the deposit was paid.

Common questions

After they accept the quote. Online pay opens the deposit invoice pay page. If online pay is off, they follow the payment instruction you chose, and you record the payment when it arrives.

A draft Balance invoice is created. The Quotes list can say Balance invoice ready to send while that draft is waiting. Home can say the deposit was paid and the balance invoice is ready to review and send. See what happens when your client accepts a quote.

Yes. Use Convert to Invoice on that quote. A deposit quote does not use that convert step. The deposit invoice and the Balance invoice are created from the acceptance and the payment.
