Fix a mistake on a sent invoice

  1. Open the sent invoice.
  2. Open Actions, then click Void invoice.
  3. A window titled Void invoice plus the invoice number explains what will happen. The invoice keeps its number and is marked Void. Its time and items go back to unbilled. Your client's pay link stops working. Click Void invoice to confirm, or Cancel to leave it alone.
  4. Go to Invoices and click New Invoice. Choose the same Client.
  5. Use Add unbilled time and Add unbilled items to put that released work on the new invoice. Add anything else that was missing.
  6. Click Create Invoice, then send the new invoice. The steps are in Create and send an invoice.

What your client sees

After you void the invoice, the old pay link no longer works. Track and Invoice does not email your client about the void. Your client gets the corrected invoice when you send the new one.

Common questions

No. **Duplicate** makes a new draft and also copies the time and items into new records. If you then void the original, the original time and items go back to unbilled as well. The same work can sit on the new invoice and in unbilled at the same time. Void first, then create a new invoice and add the released work with **Add unbilled time** and **Add unbilled items**.

No. When the invoice is **Paid**, or a payment is still processing, **Void invoice** is turned off.

**Void invoice** stays turned off while a payment is recorded. Remove that payment first if you still need to void the invoice.
