Attach a receipt

  1. Open the item, or add the files while you are still on New Item.
  2. In Attachments, drag a file in or click the box. On a phone, choose Take photo or Choose file. The note says images (JPG, PNG, HEIC, WebP) and PDFs up to 5MB. You can add up to 10 files. Files you pick on a new item are saved when you click Save Item.
  3. On an invoice, click the paperclip on a line that is already linked to an item. The panel lets you click Choose files with the same limits. If the line is not linked to an item, the panel says No receipts available for this line item.

When you send the invoice, check Include receipts in PDF if you want the files added as extra pages. Then check the categories you want: Reimbursable Purchases, Expenses, Professional Services, and Goods.

What your client sees

Your client does not see the receipt on the invoice page by itself. They get the file only when you include that category in the PDF you send or download. Cost and markup stay off the invoice either way.

Common questions

It starts off, and the label says Goods receipts are excluded by default. You can check it. It is not turned off permanently.

Yes. Use Attachments on the item. The paperclip on the invoice uses that same file once the line is linked to the item.

Leave Include receipts in PDF unchecked, or leave that category unchecked. The file stays on the item.
